TJ was two years old when his parents Jen and Todd Colby learned that he had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. “We were shocked to hear about his diagnosis and thought we were going to lose TJ,” said Jen. “Our worst moment was when TJ stopped breathing while he was sitting in his grandmother’s lap. He ended up in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit with a rare case of pneumonia.” TJ underwent treatment for several years and relapsed at the age of five. When asked what gave their family hope during TJ’s health crisis, Jen responded, “One day at the hospital, I had to chase after him with his IV pole while he was riding a tricycle. I knew at that point TJ would pull through.” Today, TJ is a student at Pacific Buddhist Academy. He still enjoys riding a bike and plays basketball. His favorite hobby is washing and detailing cars.
