Rachel

Diagnosis: Preterm Labor

Pregnancy is usually a blissful time for moms-to-be, but during a routine 22-week ultrasound, Rachel learned that her cervix was beginning to thin and dilate prematurely. Rachel was hospitalized at Kapi‘olani for nine days and then confined to strict bed rest upon her return home. At just under 28 weeks, Rachel was readmitted and gave birth to twin daughters via Caesarean section. “Although I’m feeling fine now, it has not been easy to recover emotionally from this ordeal,” said Rachel. “From the time they were born until they were four months old, I lived in constant fear for my daughters’ lives. Although my pregnancy was far different than how I imagined, I would not change it. I hope my story will help other women find acceptance, love and joy during a difficult situation.”
