I photographed my brother Willy. He has been gone for a few years and I miss him and am glad my family is together again. He is in the Air Force and he was stationed at Hickam for three years. Willy makes me laugh when he tickles me. I like when we go to the beach and catch crabs. He also takes me for rides in his car. I’m proud of my brother for serving his country. Even though it takes him away, he always finds a way to come home for a visit. He inspires me to do my best. “I’m so proud of you for taking a chance in making your life better through the Air Force. I missed you so much and I’m always excited when you come home.”

I am shy but I’m always happy.
I can swim like a mermaid and dance all night.
I will show the world what Down Syndrome kids are capable of.

My photographer was my sister, Chelsea. She has to be watched at times and as her older brother it is my responsibility to take care of her when my parents are not around. Chelsea is still learning to use her voice so it is difficult to converse with her, but I always try to let her know how much I love her. Despite her disabilities she has proven to be very adept at everyday functions. I know that with time she will be able to be self-sufficient to some degree. I am hopeful that she will find something that she is passionate about and can use that to become a productive person in the world. “Chelsea, I love you and don’t see you as a girl with Down Syndrome. I only see you as my precious little sister.”
