In his younger years, Charles juggled two jobs: one as a Reserve Officer for the Honolulu Police Department for 30 years and another as the Vice President/Co-founder of the Aston Hotel chain for 25 years.   Charles is one who always strived to have a positive influence on those with whom he worked and he would like to be remembered simply as “a nice guy.” A significant time in his life occurred when he unexpectedly became a single parent, caring for his young daughter, Carole, who is one of four children. His long-time companion, Sina, who worked with him in the late 60ʻs, has been his guiding light. “I am one lucky guy that she is still with me.” Charles, a consummate yachtsman and world traveler, remembers with pride his HPD assignment as one of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s bodyguards during a presidential visit to the islands in 1966.
